What age group does Beam Support cater to?
We support young people aged 16 and 17 through Ofsted-registered supported accommodation, and young people aged 18 and over through semi-independent provision — including staffed homes and, at one property, a floating support model. Every service is tailored to individual needs. Our supported accommodation placements are carefully matched based on suitability, with dedicated homes for young people aged 16–17 in Ofsted-registered supported accommodation, and separate provision for young people aged 18 and over in our semi-independent service. We also provide floating support, outreach services, and community support, which can support a wider range of individuals depending on their specific needs and circumstances.
Where are your homes located and are they staffed?
We operate four homes across Harrow, London. Our staffed homes are supported 24 hours a day by experienced support workers, except the home where we provide floating support for young adults. Staffing for floating support is provided based on the support needs of the young person.
How many young people live in each home?
Our homes typically accommodate 3 to 4 young people, providing a small, supportive environment that enables individualised care, effective safeguarding, and positive relationship-building. This helps us meet the needs of each young person while maintaining a homely setting.
What kind of one-to-one support do young people receive?
Each young person receives individualised one-to-one support based on their assessed needs, goals, and support plan. Support focuses on promoting independence, safety, wellbeing, education, employment, and life skills, helping young people achieve positive outcomes and prepare for a successful transition to adulthood.
What services does Beam Support provide?
Beam Support provides 24-hour Supported Accommodation, Floating Support, Outreach Services and Community Support. The type and level of support provided depends on the individual’s age, needs, circumstances and agreed support arrangements.
Can young people stay with Beam Support long-term?
Placement lengths are determined by the young person’s assessed needs, welfare, and individual support plan. We provide stable, person-centred support and regularly review progress with the young person, placing authority, and other relevant professionals to ensure their placement remains appropriate and supports positive outcomes, independence, and a planned move-on when they are ready.
How do I make a referral to Beam Support?
Referrals can be made by contacting Beam Support directly through our Contact Us page or by speaking with a member of our team. We will discuss the individual’s needs, placement requirements and suitability before progressing the referral.
How do I make a complaint?
You can speak to any member of staff, including your Keyworker. You can also email complaints@bsscs.co.uk directly — this inbox is monitored by staff who are not the subject of complaints, so you can raise a concern without going through your Keyworker or home first. You can also contact our Registered Manager, Augustina Collins, directly. No young person will ever face any penalty for raising a complaint.
Is Beam Support regulated by Ofsted?
Our supported accommodation service for 16 and 17 year olds is registered with and inspected by Ofsted, URN 2756846. Our semi-independent provision for young people aged 18 and over sits outside Ofsted’s supported accommodation regulations, and is run to the same high internal safeguarding standard.
What is Floating Support?
Floating Support is part of our semi-independent provision for young people aged 18 and over. This model has no on-site staff instead, a designated Keyworker visits on a scheduled basis to support a young person as they build independence skills with guidance. Floating Support sits outside the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023 and is not Ofsted-registered; we apply our own internal safeguarding and suitability standards to every young person referred to this service.
Who can use the Outreach Service?
This service is for people in the community who are not residents in a Beam Support home. Our staff visit clients in their own homes, in the community, or alongside partner organisations. There is no age cap on this service.
How do referrals work at Beam Support?
Share key information about the young person's needs, history and any risk factors. We discuss matching against our current property and outreach/floating support capacity, along with availability and support levels. If suitable, we arrange a visit or virtual introduction with the young person and their social worker. Placement begins with a clear support plan (reflected in the young person's Pathway Plan) and regular review points.
